COASTSIDE COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA CONCERT JAN. 28th

The Coastside Community Orchestra (CCO) performs popular classics Saturday, Jan. 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay.  The concert includes Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and “Night on Bald Mountain,” and Haydn’s “Piano Concerto No. 11.” The orchestra will also play Borodin’s “On the Steppes of Central Asia.”

Much of the Russian music will sound familiar to an American audience. Borodin’s music, composed in 1880, became the basis of the 1953 musical “Kismet.” “Night on Bald Mountain” was featured in the classic Walt Disney animated film “Fantasia.”

Joss Cano, music director for Community United Methodist Church, will conduct. This will mark his first and final time at the podium with the CCO as he’s moving to teach and perform at the Crestwood Music Education Center in Eastchester, New York.

Soloist Irina Behrendt, plays piano and organ at the Community United Methodist Church and holds music degrees from the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory, the Rachmaninoff College of Music in Kalingrad, Russia, and from the New England Conservatory of Music.
