Last night, I was invited to the final rehearsal of the Coastal Repertory Theater’s production of Pete Townsend’s rock opera, Tommy, which opens a five week run at the south end of Main Street in Half Moon Bay tonight.

I was simply blown away by the incredible production - the fabulous performances by local actors, the brilliant staging, the excellent band which performed the entire musical with verve and precision.

In general, I’m not a fan of musicals.  And having grown up a dedicated fan of the music of the Who (I’m 51), my expectations were that it would simply be fun to see a local production’s effort to do what in my mind is an utter classic.  Superlatives do not come easily to me.  That being said, I can only paraphrase the lines from one of the final numbers in the show:

"Come to this House!  Everyone go home and fetch your relations!"  Kids, seniors - everyone will love it.

Don’t miss this great local show, and don’t let any of your friends miss it, either!

We saw the sneak preview a couple of weeks ago and were really impressed with what we saw. This is an ambitious production. It deserves our support, but seeing the performance is its own reward.

This is completely self serving as I’m in the band, but we’ve loved having people see the show and to see their reactions to it.  We’ve had people dancing and singing during the encores after most of the performances so far.

It’s running every weekend from now through August 22.  Tickets are still available, but going fast.  Friday and Saturday shows were both sold out.  You can get them online at http://www.coastalrep.com/tickets.html or they are available at the box office from two hours before each show.

Come see us!!
