Half Moon Bay Sports Bar & Grill invites you to join them in finding forever homes for rescued animals on Saturday, June 4, 2011, from noon to 3pm at its HMB Dog Adoption Fair and fundraising event. The event is the brainchild of HMB Sports Bar & Grill owners Bella and Steve Erlich, inspired by the efforts of Half Moon Bay residents Jacqueline Rickman and Carol Wexler to rescue animals in need -- in particular, a 2-year-old German Shepherd mix named Darla who had run out of time at the Peninsula Humane Society.

"We are passionate about helping homeless animals," Wexler, a professional trainer, says. "Darla has some behavioral issues that are fixable, but that need time and attention to address. PHS extended her time so that we could find a place for her." Rickman found an organization that could not only take Darla, but address her behavioral issues as well: All Creatures Great and Small Rescue, a 501(c)(3) foster-based animal rescue in Hollister.

All Creatures Great and Small Rescue takes animals whose time has run out at shelters due to lack of space or because they need special veterinary or behavioral care. ACGS founder Vivian Peacock explains, "We provide the love and care they need to become healthy, happy, and ready for their forever homes." Thanks to an established network of "rescue friends", including the Erlichs, Rickman, and Wexler, as well as the extension from PHS, ACGS placed Darla at the Dog House Inn of Gilroy, where she's getting the 1-on-1 behavioral training she needs. Darla and other adoptable ACGS dogs will be at the fair June 4.

So come to the HMB Dog Adoption Fair and find your new best buddy, get behavioral advice from Carol Wexler, and stay for the fundraising after-party! Enjoy live music, dancing, comedy, a silent auction, and a raffle. Proceeds go to help All Creatures Great and Small Rescue continue rescuing and caring for animals in need from all over Northern California, including the Bay Area and Coastside.

For more information and to find out more about Darla and the other rescues in need, see ACGS Rescue's web site: http://www.allcreaturesgs.org. See you at the fair!
