HMB Horseshoe Club is taking on the nationals
The Half Moon Bay Horseshoe Club will be well-represented at 81st Annual World Horseshoe Pitching Championships. Fourteen of the club’s 39 members will be be at the championships in Bakersfield July 18 to 30.
The club hosts 13 national tournaments each year in Half Moon Bay. Last year they had over 260 contestants in the local national tournaments.
The Half Moon Bay Horseshoe Club is one of 22 clubs in Northern California. The club was founded in 1987 by Bill Terry at American Legion Post # 474, which is now the location of Cameron’s Inn & Pub.
The Half Moon Bay Horseshoe Club has sixteen courts, located at Wavecrest Road, Half Moon Bay. The club also has a sanctioned league pitching each Thursday night at 5:30pm, weather permitting, during Daylight Savings time.

- The current defending champions are Alan Francis, OH in the Mens Division, Alan will be seeking his 11th World title. Sue Snyder, KY in the Womens Division, Sue will be going after her 6th World title
- 47 states and 2 countries are represented
- The youngest competitor is Matthew Williams age 5, of Elkgrove, CA; the oldest is Ken Schulze age 89, of Santa Rosa, CA.
- Records to be possibly broken Alan Francis’ 11th title, Walter Ray Williams winning titles as right and left-handed pitcher
- Famous individuals entered in this event are Walter Ray Williams, leading money winner on the PBA tour
- Dates of Championship Finals will be July 28-30, 2005 at 10 AM and 3PM
- Most participants will play 3 consecutive days with 5 games per day. The one with the most wins is declared that class’ champion
- Economic impact on host cities is estimated to be upwards of 4 million dollars

The National Horseshoe Pitchers Association announces the 81st Annual World Horseshoe Pitching Championships to be held in Bakersfield, CA. July 18, through July 30, 2005. Pitchers will compete for $108,000 in prize money. There are 823 pitchers entered, including 8 children less than 9 years of age.
Champions will be crowned in the following Divisions; Men, Women, Senior Men, Senior Women, Elders (over 70 yrs. of age) Junior Boys, Junior Girls.
Entries from 48 US states and 4 Canadian Provinces will vie for the crowns. Present Men’s Champion Alan Francis of Ohio will be present to defend his crown as will Sue Snyder of Kentucky the Women’s Champion. The hosting facility will boast 42 regulation clay courts at the Kern County Fairgrounds, admission if free.
