Hula at the Harbor THIS Thursday!

If you haven’t come to our monthly car show yet, you will want to stop in this Thursday, June 2, for a special Hawaiian themed, “Cool Harbor Nights.”

In addition to the dream machines on display, the Pillar Point Harbor will be transformed into the Hawaiian tropics (well at least with food, leis and hula—we’re still working on the weather part!)

The Hawaiian theme was the result of a brainstorm from a good friend and cancer survivor, Yvette White. White is working on garnering support for cancer research with her group called the Coastside Sister Survivors Team. “You try to raise whatever you can for cancer and we thought this would be kind of a fun way to do it,” she said.

The team is a small yet growing group of cancer survivors and friends formed on the coast earlier this year and will be raising money by selling raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing. The funds they collect will go directly toward Half Moon Bay’s Relay for Life event on Aug. 20.

Coincidentally, several members from the performing Ladies of Halau Hula O’ Ho’ olehua have also successfully battled cancer. In Hawaiian, the group’s name translates to dance school of strength and friendship, which just seemed appropriate, said the group’s director Ali Tejeda.

The women will be performing some of the more modern forms of the dance (dating back from the 1920s to 1940s) on Thursday in long dresses with cellophane skirts.

This show is really about vitality, if we can find something we love, whether it is restoring our dream car or practicing the hula we can endure just about anything.  Of course, doing it with a group of friends makes it a lot more fun!

So come join in on the festivities this Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Pillar Point Harbor parking lot in Half Moon Bay.
