Letter: Improv troupe looks to Coastside for comedy talent

By on Tue, January 23, 2007

"Blue Blanket Improv" comedy troupe is currently looking for new cast members to form a Half Moon Bay based performance troupe. We are looking for funny, outgoing, talented, men & women to join the ranks of the ‘Blue Blanket Improv Performers.  Selected individuals will be able to develop their Improv skills, build a repertoire of scene characters, be provided a great creative outlet, and will learn how to instruct others in local workshops offered to the community.  All players will be expected to attend weekly rehearsals. If you or someone you know wants to develop their improvisational skills to performance level and perform locally, let’s talk.  Previous improvisational training is preferred but not required.

‘Blue Blanket Improv’ (BBI) started in 2000 in San Francisco as a weekly informal get together of improvisational actors.  Initially the group was founded on the idea that like-minded improvisers wanted to get together and refine their skills.  For the past six years Blue Blanket Improv has been performing in San Francisco comedy clubs, bay area theatres, cafés, in public parks, at a wide variety of bay area charity and community events, as well as providing countless theatre workshops.

In the course of its history, BBI has remained dedicated to the spirit of fun and giving. Our actors receive no money for their performances.  Any proceeds from a performance go the group to further advertising and establishing free workshops in the community. We regularly volunteer our time and performances to charities and educational groups throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2004, BBI incorporated in California and in 2005 received tax-exempt status as a recognized charity, dedicated to continuing its efforts of bringing low cost, and no cost, fun theater experiences to all in the Bay Area.

BBI is now looking to Half Moon Bay as a possible new home.  The organization is currently speaking with local venues to determine the most effective way to serve this coastside community.  At this time the local troupe is seeking new members to attend auditions at the end of Feb. The mission of this new troupe will be to create safe, affordable, local places within our community where our young people can come together and experience the theatre arts.  In addition, the group will offer workshops for local individuals of all ages to explore their creativity, learn techniques for thinking out of the box, gain experience presenting in front of others, and possibly have the opportunity to perform locally for friends and family.  Our hope is for this new project to be truly community based.  Anyone with appropriate experience and the desire to participate in this new venture please contact BBI thru our website: www.BlueBlanketImprov.com or e-mail us directly at: [email protected]

As a member of this community I look forward to the endless possibilities yet to come.
