MROSD holding fire management session Tuesday, Nov 6

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) will hold a Wildland Fire Management Policy study session on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 in Los Altos at 6:30pm on November 6, 2007. The meeting will be at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road, Los Altos.

A panel comprising agency and consulting professionals experienced in wildland fire management will make presentations and discuss several issues that will help the District develop a fire policy.

Featured panelists:

David Sanguinetti, Operations Manager, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District;
Presentation: Current District practices for wildland fire management, including District capabilities and participation in local and regional fire planning efforts

Darrell Wolf, Battalion Chief, CalFire;
Presentation: State Responsibility Areas and CalFire fire response, private residence fire protection, and beneficial fire management practices

Chris Spohrer, Resource Ecologist, State Parks;
Presentation: State Parks fire management practices, capabilities, and use of prescribed fire and fire response planning

Carol Rice, Wildland Fire Consultant, Wildland Resource Management;
Presentation: Public agency fire planning efforts, fuel and fire behavior modeling, and East Bay fire planning case studies.

Feedback from the community is extremely important. The District invites agencies, organizations, and all interested parties, including members of the public, to join this discussion.  A Draft Policy resulting from this study session will be available for review at the District’s website: http://www.openspace.org
