Free public forum welcomes Alex Evans, expert political pollster from EMC Research, to discuss the upcoming election with Lenny Mendonca,
director at McKinsey & Company and
founder of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company

 

What:
The Presidential election is just six weeks away, and a lot is at stake. Join us for expert predictions about the potential winner and loser, what issues will play a role, and how recent international events and campaign blunders may change the outcome.  This month’s guest is nationally-known political pollster Alex Evans, president and founder of EMC Research, and a recognized expert in California for all forms of opinion research, focus groups, voter polls, strategic design and development, and public policy analysis. The forum, which will also discuss hot-button initiatives on California’s ballot, will be moderated by Lenny Mendonca, director of global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company and founder of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company.

Speaker Biography:

Alex Evans
President and Founding Partner, EMC Research

Over the past 27 years, Alex Evans has conducted thousands of public opinion studies.  He has polled in every state and throughout the western United States, from Whatcom County, Wash., to San Diego, Calif.  He has conducted survey research at every level of politics and government and for large and small corporations, government institutions, and universities.  He has directed accounts for some of the nation’s largest corporations, Presidential campaigns in this country and abroad, statewide elections, and hundreds of projects on regional and local issues. He is considered one of the finest analysts of public opinion in the nation and is frequently asked to speak on the subject at some of the country’s top universities.
Recent EMC clients include Jerry Brown, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, State Senator Mark DeSaulnier, The Contra Costa Transportation Authority, Alameda County, Alameda County Congestion Management Authority, Chevron, Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, PAMF and The Bay Area Council.
Evans has a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Public Policy Degree from the University of Michigan, served as an elected member of the Richmond City Council in California (1995-2001), and is currently the President of the Junior Statesman Foundation Board of Directors.

Moderator Biography:

Lenny Mendonca is a director (senior partner) in the Washington D.C. and San Francisco offices of McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm.

Lenny is currently the leader of McKinsey’s U.S. state and local public sector practice.  For many years Lenny led the Firm’s knowledge development efforts overseeing the McKinsey Global Institute and the Firm’s communications, which includes the McKinsey Quarterly, and has served for a decade on the McKinsey Shareholder Council (its board of directors). His client work focuses on service to public sector organizations, and over the course of his career he has helped dozens of government, corporate, and nonprofit clients solve their most difficult management challenges.

Lenny is the Chairman Emeritus of the Bay Area Council and the Economic Institute of the Bay Area, and was vice-chair of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council.  He serves on the boards of The New America Foundation, The Committee for Economic Development, Common Cause, California Forward, the Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium, ChildrenNow, and The California Business for Educational Excellence Foundation.  He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and founder and chairman of Fuse Corps.

He received his MBA and certificate in public management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  He holds an AB, magna cum laude, in economics from Harvard College.

Lenny lives on the Half Moon Bay coast, south of San Francisco, with his wife and two daughters, where he is the founder and owner of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company.

ABOUT BREWS & VIEWS

Brews and Views is the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company’s regular speakers series that tackles public issues that affect us all, from the Coastside of California to Washington, DC. Started in 2009 by Lenny Mendonca, the founder of the Brewing Company and director at McKinsey & Company, Brews and Views serves as both a free public forum and fundraiser for Coastside nonprofit organizations (ten percent of all dinner proceeds are donated to a local nonprofit after each event).
