Pescadero’s having a visioning meeting…and potluck

The former Pescadero Elementary School was a center of community events. What are the current centers of the community and what should they be?

The Pescadero Municipal Advisory Committee is holding a town-wide planning and visioning workshop to look at the community’s vision of its future, with an emphasis on affordable housing.

The meeting will be Saturday, July 17, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Pescadero IDES Hall on Stage Road. If you’re interested, you’re invited. Bring a potluck dish to share.

While the workshop will try to address all community concerns, the emphasis will be affordable housing—how much of it, where to put it, what architectural style and how it fits into the community.  The meeting is put on by the Pescadero Foundation/Affordable Housing Initiative, with the cooperation & support of PMAC and South Coast Collaborative. It was the Pescadero Foundation who applied for and received the $25,000 grant from S.H. Cowell Foundation.

Last month, AFI’s consultants Fisher & Hall conducted meetings with groups throughout the Pescadero area to understand the needs and concerns of the town and its surrounding areas. These ranged from social factors (affordable housing, declining school enrollment, lack of amenities in town), to environmental factors (flooding, nitrates in the groundwater) to county regulations (redevelopment constraints, current zoning codes).
