Child Endangerment:  273(a) PC
11-23-05 0803 Hours
El Granada, #05-6562
Deputies responded to the area of Ave. Alhambra and Ave. Portola regarding a moving vehicle with no driver, and a small child trapped in the back seat.  The suspect, who was the victim child’s nanny, parked in front of the El Granada General Store and ran in to get a cup of coffee, leaving a small child in the back seat.  The vehicle was still running, and rather than in park, the vehicle was left in reverse.  With no driver, and the victim child secured in a safety seat in the back of the vehicle, the vehicle began moving in reverse.  The vehicle then started driving in circles, in reverse, in the middle of Ave. Portola.  Seeing the vehicle going in backwards circles with no driver and a small child in the back seat, Hoa Nguyen of El Granada decided to take action.  With no regard for his own personal safety, Nguyen ran in circles with the vehicle, and was able to get into the driver door and stop the vehicle.  Because of Nguyen’s quick and heroic actions, no one was injured during this incident.  A case was submitted to the District Attorney for prosecution of the careless nanny.
