...Fire weather watch in effect from saturday evening through
late sunday night…
The national weather service in san francisco has issued a fire
weather watch…Which is in effect from 6 pm saturday through
6 am monday morning.
On saturday afternoon strong northwest winds will develop along
the coast and over the hills. The winds will shift to a northerly
direction on saturday night and increase. Sustained north to
northeast winds of 20-35 mph with frequent gusts to 45 mph are
forecast saturday night through midday sunday in the hills above
500 feet. The strongest winds will be in the north and east bay
hills. However unlike previous events strong winds are expected to
reach the hills of santa clara county as well as the santa cruz
mountains.
Relative humdity values will initially start out high…Above 50
percent. However rh values will quickly drop and by sunday morning
be between 30-45 percent. Even though rh values will be slightly
higher than usual…Wind speeds will also be unusually strong with
this event. The combination of very strong winds…Seasonably dry
fuels and moderate rh values will create a potentially dangerous
fire weather situation.
On sunday wind speeds will slowly decrease to 10-25 mph but rh
values will drop into the teens with warm afternoon temperatures.
On sunday night northeast winds will continue between 10-20 mph
with rh recoveries less than 30 percent by monday morning.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
red flag warnings.
