The Cabrillo Unified School District will seek a five-year $150 per-parcel tax, reports the Review. The tax will require approval from 2/3 of the voters in the June primary election.

The tax would raise $1.5 million this year toward the district’s projected $2.5 million budget shortfall.

The district also distributed a list of potential cuts, in order of decreasing desirability.

The school district will be starting negotiations later this month with its employee unions for possible cost savings including furlough days, salary reductions and shortening the school calendar by five days.

The Charter Review Committee is having a meeting in Half Moon Bay on Wednesday, March 10 (time to be announced) at Cunha Intermediate School.  Its very important that residents from the unincorporated Coastside turnout at this meeting.

On Saturday February 13th, The Visionary Edge will present a screening of May I Be Frank? which documents the transformation of Frank Ferrante.  The film reveals, with compassion, humor, and Frank-ness, the essence of the human condition and the tenacity of the human spirit.

The filmmakers as well as the subject/star of the film, Frank Ferrrante, will be present to share their experiences and dialogue with the audience after the screening. Josh McHugh, formerly of Half Moon Bay and founder of Living Intentions, a raw food company, will be present to share some thoughts about the raw food lifestyle and will provide samples of his products prior to the movie.

The Story:  Frank Ferrante is a 54 year old, 290 Sicilian from Brooklyn living in San Francisco.  A lover of life, great food, beautiful women and a good laugh, Frank is also a drug addict, morbidly obese, pre-diabetic, and fighting Hepatitis C. He’s estranged from his daughter, single,and struggling with depression. Frank knows that life can be better, and is looking for a way out.

UPDATE: This high surf advisory has been extended to Sunday 6am.

As if on cue for Mavericks, the National Weather Service for the San Francisco Bay Area has issued a high surf advisory starting Friday at 10 pm through Saturday afternoon. They are expecting a northwesterly swell of 15 to 18 feet with periods of 18 seconds.  Swell of this size will produce large breaking waves and strong rip currents within the surf zone.

At about 1pm today, it was announced that the Mavericks Big Wave Surf Contest would be held this Saturday, Feb 13.

My next door neighbor is running a junk yard in his driveway.  He starts sawing and drilling at 8am on Sunday mornings.  The noise and the visual blight is irritating and frustrating.  Anyone have any idea what the SM County rules are for noisy and littered properties in unincorporated Moss Beach?
