Coastside Certified Farmers Market is moving this year to Shoreline Station, from the Cetrella parking lot where it has been based for the last five years.  Organizer Erin Tormey plans to open the market as usual on the first week of May.

Tormey says she has "a huge debt of gratitude to Paul Shenkman and Dave Labuda of Cetrella for five years worth of trust and gracious hospitality.  Without their enduring support and commitment to community, this market would never have had the chance to come to fruition." Owner Franco Carrubbia has made the Shoreline Station parking lot available free to the Farmer’s Market.

The Farmer’s market has made a conscious effort to limit its farmer base to the Bay Area "foodshed" and has given priority to growers in San Mateo County. The market’s first tier of local preference applies to farmers and fishermen from West San Mateo County.  In addition to local produce, the market features musical talent, and an audience that appreciates their work. Local artisans, dancers, and musicians appear at the market each week, as do a number of community groups.

A minivan jumped the curb in front of M.Coffee some time around 11:00-11:30. No one was injured but the driver of the minivan was noticeably shaken.

This comes four months to the day after the December 3rd accident where a Chevy truck jumped the curb at the Posh Moon, exactly across the street from today’s accident.

The Sierra Club’s director for coastal programs Mark Massara has sent a letter [Last letter on page] in support of the Coastal Commission’s inquiry into the county’s LCP Update [pdf of letters], and on the infrastructure improvement issues in particular:

[Supervisor Rich Gordon’s] quip that "we must build infrastructure to the rate of development" (development that he approves, by the way) is dead bang wrong on the law and the Coastal Act. A bedrock foundation principal of the California Coastal Act is that infrastructure development is only permitted as needed for the existing population, and specifically not allowed to facilitate new suburban sprawl, no matter how much Supervisor Gordon wants it.

The Coastside Mothers’ Club will host an informative session, "Holistic Management of Children’s Health Issues."  The presentation will be lead by Dr. Elisa H. Song, board certified pediatrician and holistic medicine practitioner who will discuss how to treat your children and entire family naturally using homeopathy, herbs, nutrition and traditional Chinese medicine.  The session will be held Thursday, April 5, 2007 from 7 to 8:30pm.

The Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association are holding a series of lectures and trips highlighting the Sanctuary from April through June.  The series begins with a lecture on life in the intertidal zone on April 12 at the Point Montara LIghthouse. and includes a tidepool trip at the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, Kayaking at Tomales Bay Estuary, and a day on the sanctuary aboard the Fulmar Reaserch Vessel.

The Coastal Watershed Council is holding its eighth annual Snapshot Day event Saturday, May 5. They’re looking for volunteers to monitor the water quality in streams flowing into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, which includes coastal San Mateo County.

Spanning more than 300 miles  of coast from Pacifica  in the north to Morro   Bay in the south, Snapshot Day volunteers monitor water quality and collect samples to assessthe health of over 100 bodies of water.

Training for San Mateo County residents will be Sunday, April 15 12:30 to 3:30pm, at the San Gregorio General Store (Hwy 84 & Stage Rd). Click below for locations further south.

The Half Moon Bay man who killed an ostrich with a gun has been released after five months in jail, reports the Chronicle.

Jonathon Porter, 20—who prosecutors say killed for revenge after the bird humiliated him in front of women he was trying to impress—was sentenced Thursday by Judge John Grandsaert, in effect, to time served. He was also placed on probation and ordered to attend animal-cruelty counseling.
