On Saturday October 24th, The Visionary Edge will screen the One Peace at a Time, a film about a messed up world and how we could fix it. The event will be co-hosted by and presented at the Community United Methodist Church in Half  Moon Bay.  

Turk Pipkin’s One Peace at a Time is an inspiring feature documentary highlighting solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems. Filmed in twenty countries, it includes the insights of Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Physicist Steven Chu, (President Obama’s Secretary of Energy), Dr. Helene Gayle (CEO of CARE, International), American legend Willie Nelson and many others, while featuring the music of Bob Dylan, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper and more. 

Pipkin sought the answer to one basic question: Can we provide basic rights - water, nutrition, education, healthcare and a sustainable and peaceful environment -to every child on earth? As Desmond Tutu reminds him, "Remember the sea is actually made up of drops of water. What you do, where you are is significant. In Africa they say ‘There is only one way to eat an elephant - one piece at a time’". 

Saturday, October 24th. Doors will open at 7:00pm, event begins at 7:30 at the Community United Methodist Church, 777 Miramontes Street (at Johnston), HMB. The event is free; donations will be   accepted to cover the costs of screening. The Chronicle is reporting that a body has been found below the roadway on Devil’s Slide. Sheriff’s vehicles still at the site (near Grey Whale Cove) as of 2:30 PM - road is open.

The person was discovered at about 11 a.m. at Gray Whale Cove, below state Highway 1 south of Pacifica.

The person’s identity has not been confirmed. But a car was found at the top of the cliff, and authorities believe it belonged to the victim, said acting San Mateo County sheriff’s Lt. Wes Matsuura.

You’re invited to attend the inaugural event for the newly formed Half Moon Bay Police Activities League (PAL) on Saturday, October 24 from 11am to 2 pm at Cunha Intermediate School. Hoops with Cops will feature basketball, food and fun for the entire community.

A talented group of athletes and police officers will lead participants through fun basketball competitions, quick three –on- three games and culminate in a game between the cops and members of the boys and girls Cunha basketball teams. Everyone gets lunch at this event, whether or not they participate.

Pacifica Climate Committee, P-Town Classic and Pacifica Beach Coalition are cosponsoring a fun climate change event at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica.

Join them as they take part in the world wide day of climate actions focused on the idea that we need to reduce carbon in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million. Participants will spell out "350" with their bodies on the beach at Linda Mar:

The community garden at Quarry Park is holding a potluck celebration, including music and activities for kids.

There will be a short dedication ceremony to thank the donors and folks who assisted getting the Community Garden up and running.  A great time to see the fruits of the community garden labors. Ken & Sally Coverdell will receive an acknowledgment, as well as the Bigue Family who gave $5,000. seed money for the park.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting a wetter than usual winter for California, thanks to to El Niño.

"We expect El Niño to strengthen and persist through the winter months, providing clues as to what the weather will be like during the period," says Mike Halpert, deputy director of the Climate Prediction Center – a division of the National Weather Service. "Warmer ocean water in the equatorial Pacific shifts the patterns of tropical rainfall that in turn change the strength and position of the jetstream and storms over the Pacific Ocean and the U.S."
