The Review’s publisher is confused about park financing, democracy

June 20, 2007
There are always 2 sides or 2 ways to look at things. So from a definition standpoint. If one of them is “Community Activist” what would be the right opposing term. I can hear all the cute, funny, insulting and pithy comments from some but let’s keep them off this so we don’t turn into just another trash slinging discussion. I actually would be interested if those that feel “Community Activist” is a negative term to imply some bad action, what would they consider a valid opposing term…

Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee awards over $100,000

Cheri, maybe if you posted the amount you need to replace your antiquated phone system and what the new system would provide you (probably your grant application statements) , then folks would know what you need and there maybe other organizations or individual who would want to chip in. PS I’ve done the math a number of times, but I only come up with $101,500 donated. Since they said they donated $104,000 there maybe $2,500 laying around in loose change that is still available.

I also thought discussion was over. You are the one that took it to a personnel vendetta level, I did NOT. The intention of your quote was very evident. Referencing Stalin to make a point about our action is not intended as a compliment. Since you insist on spitting vitriolic statements, expect a silent reply from me till you learn civility and the art of communication.

I had indicated previously that a one way forum is not the best way to communicate about this very important topic. Interactions take time, personal interpretation are not explainable, it is restricted to those with the technology available, replies are interpreted on their proximity to specific desired wording and personal bias and non relevant statement creep into the exchange. That is why I had offered to meet, allowing for more than a month so that there would be plenty of opportunity to accommodate…

Peter, I’m sorry my reply was unsatisfactory to you. I had offered to meet, review information and answer questions. Based your post, you apparently prefer a web/email based exchanges. While technology allows for online forums, they are no substitute for talking. Although your position appears clear and firm, I am still offering to have a meeting where we both talk and listen.

It is very natural to question and to not be happy with paying “X+” for something we have been paying “X” for in the past. Especially if we can’t see an obvious clear reason. We tend to question the validity of anyone asking for more money. I have never had any issue with questioning decisions of public agencies. I firmly believe that all governmental entities should be able to explain their decisions. Communication is a two way street. There has to be a deliverer of information along with…

Wavecrest resumes farming on Thanksgiving

December 01, 2006
It’s time for a CDP on this topic. A Canary Defense Proposition. On behalf of the thousands of our avian feathers friends that gave their lives to save the lives of miners in the days before the behemoth mining operations, it is disingenuous to associate some nefarious intention with “canary”. They do not deserve that demeaning association for being a vital early warning signal that saved thousands of lives. Unless the county bureaucrats are trying to indicate that “canary” is actually…

Brian, you may want to spend $0.75 this week to buy the current paper. While I know the paper HAS reported in the past about Wavecrest, look at the editorial cartoon. “Wavecrest” is used twice. They apparently do feel there are things about Wavecrest to put in the paper.

Why are some of you so fixated on having to have a name for who took the photos. And assuming that there is something nefarious because the photographer isn’t identified. There are about 25,000 residence on the coast. Could you please explain why it is so vital to know which of those 25,000 took the picture? And if there was a name, how that would change the news one iota. Activity on that property is news and is reported on by the local newspaper so why the brouhaha over news about the property…

Is there any issue or topic concerning matters between Pescadero and Pacifica that actually has a middle ground for discussion. Or must extremes and unsubstantiated statements always be the norm. The legality of taking photographs and the legality of publishing someone’s photos are easy to research and find. And so are laws governing personal safety and harassment. Like belly buttons, everyone has an opinion, but that doesn’t make an opinion fact or law. Perhaps those with righteous indignation…

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

November 08, 2006
Andrew, I admire you for holding back with a reply until the election was over. I’m positive you had wanted to correct many invalid posts before but that would have just added more fuel to a vicious and unproductive hate mongering fire. And you showed very mature restraint to wait till there was no need for venom anymore. While it is certainly a popular national tactic that if one doesn’t have substance to debate, then picking issues that can carry emotions is a good approach to focus folks away…

School Board candidates square off Monday, Oct 30

November 06, 2006
Brian, and you have the gall to complain how others phrase things and insinuate and insult. Man what are you smokin'. I am very glad you have the opportunity to not vote for me. I would actually consider it an honor and badge of courage not to receive your vote. Since you know nothing of my positions or values yet find that the fact I'm running for an office offends you so much that you have the need to spill venom in public without any supporting arguments is the best evidence yet that my desire…

School Board candidates square off Monday, Oct 30

Cute !!!! The real crux of the CUSD campaign that matters has finally been revealed. The order of the candidates on signs. Never mind past performance or possible future performance for any one of the 6 candidates. Never mind facts and data about running the school district for it’s primary purpose, education. Never mind the qualifications of the 6 candidates for taking the district where it should be or where it should have been years ago. Once we know the hidden and secrete purpose of order of…

Bob Ptacek is running for CUSD as a write-in candidate

November 06, 2006
Per the elections office, a reasonable resemblance to "Bob Ptacek" will count. Some misspelling is expected in write in campaigns’. So if the intent of the write-in can be determined, it will count as a write in vote.

Lots of rhetoric around lots of good topics, but the CUSD election should actually come down to a very easy decision. If one believes that the board has not wasted money, that CUSD couldn’t afford to loose, by the course they have stayed on for years and staying on that course is the management of the district that should continue, then the choice is extremely simple. Vote for the incumbent slate Schreur-Riemer-Wilson. If the course they have pursued and plan to continue on is not the best use…

HMB fire board responds to union critics

October 30, 2006
The main point that should matter is delivery of quality fire and life safety service to the communities based on those communities being the revenue source for that service. In Mr Hawkin’s 8 posts he has been all over the board with both questions and replies. And what is not addressed is the simple fact that the community will get and maintain control of excellent fire and life safety service from CDF exactly as it is now receiving. Mr Hawkins said he would present better workable alternatives,…

Here are some links that contain information about impact from riprap increasing erosion rates along adjacent properties and how armoring an eroding beach eventually results in the loss of the beach. http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/psds/news/The Oregonian Sep 03.doc http://www.surfrider.org/structures/ http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/TD/TP_RES/research_notes/RSN06-04DynamicRev.pdf And certainly some local evidence of the impact to adjacent land. http://www.californiacoastline.org/cgi-bin/captionlist.cgi?searchstr=13294…

Ray, On 10/6 you stated “I agree with you that insults and naming calling are not productive and that they should be avoided”. I think “There goes that superiority complex again“ qualifies as naming calling. You have also insisted on sticking to facts and asking for clarification before jumping to conclusion. So that I don’t do that, could you provide me the links or reference material to support your “If none of the rip rap had existed, the bluff side will still be falling into the beach”.…

Ray, thank you for the explanation of your two types experience with the beach. (7 years of daily experience and 3 years of occasional experience). In your previous posts when making statements about the beach you had not distinguished between the two, just referencing experience and hence my confusion between 7 and 10 years. Next time I will be more than happy to ask for clarification in private email to avoid a posting dance.
