We need bilingual volunteers to register client families for the 2011 Adopt-A-Family program. Registration is from 9-4 on Oct. 1, 8, 22, and 29. Volunteers can give as few as two hours; there will be an orientation/training in September for the volunteers.

Each year, Coastside Hope’s Christmas Bureau Adopt-a-Family program provides gifts of new clothes, toys, food and other items to approximately 350 low-income families or seniors on fixed incomes.

Over the years, the program has become an opportunity for many people in the community to share in the holiday spirit by sponsoring, or adopting, families or seniors. With the support of so many sponsors and the boundless energy of so many volunteers, over 1,500 residents in our community also share in the happiness of the holiday season.

Technology meets tradition at the 41st Annual Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival with the release of the world famous festival’s new app. The Pumpkin Festival app has been approved by Apple and is now available at the Apple App Store for FREE for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Developed by Joe Falcone, Roy Salume, and Kon Lovett of Phondini Partners in Half Moon Bay, the app is designed to enhance the festival experience for users by providing everything from a fact sheet with key festival information, a detailed site map, event and entertainment schedules, food and beverage listings, and “Top Ten” list to a list of local pumpkin patches, push messaging alerts, special deals, contests, trivia and more!

In addition, the app was created by local residents who are intimately familiar with both the Pumpkin Festival and Half Moon Bay. “We developed this app because we love this crazy place called Half Moon Bay,” says Falcone, “so we didn’t limit ourselves to some arbitrary amount of time or effort. We’ve put our hearts and souls into this because we think we can make a difference. Some people serve turkey legs, others organize pie eating contests. We write software.”

Coastside Lutheran Church is hosting it’s annual Book Faire

September 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Faire will feature assortment of children, young adult and adult fiction and non-fiction books sorted by category.  VHS, DVDs, CDs, books on tape, cassettes, computer games, console games (like PSP, X-BOX, etc.), puzzles and board games.

We are now accepting donations of the above listed items only.  We cannot accept encyclopedias, textbooks, or magazines.

Please bring all donations to 900 N. Cabrillo Highway in Half Moon Bay.  There is a blue bin at the end of the parking lot.  If you have a larger donation please cover with tarp or plastic located in the bin.

CalFresh and Pescadero Grown! Tokens at the Market
  To help fill the gap and get more farm-direct produce into the hands of our low income neighbors, Puente and many individual donors have partnered to create Friends of Pescadero Grown! a token matching program for recipients of CalFresh, WIC as well as other low income participants that reside in Pescadero, La Honda, Loma Mar,and San Gregorio. 

Pescadero Grown! Tokens may be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the Pescadero Grown Certified Community Farmers’ Market. They work just like cash. If you receive WIC, CalFresh (food stamps) or your income is below the 133% FPL, Puente will match a maximum of $10 worth of your purchases each week if you enroll in the program. The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir will be performing in Half Moon Bay, Saturday, September 24th, 7:30PM.

We are a multi-faith, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural group of people that come together to sing Black Gospel music - sending Peace, Joy, and Love - to show what is possible among all people.

We will be performing in Half Moon Bay, Saturday, September 24th, 7:30PM at the Methodist Church at 777 Miramontes. This concert will include both the Adult choir, and also the Youth Choir.

Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $22 for Seniors and under 18.

Drummer Tana will play from new release, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, jazz interpretations of the favorite music from the films of James Bond. Two Secret Agent women will join in – vocalist Annie Sellick and the Hammond B3 sensation from Osaka, Japan, Akiko Tsruruga, bringing a serious B3 groove to James Bond.  Akira has been a mainstay drummer for Bach Society performers, including Art Farmer, Eric Alexander, The Heath Brothers, Mel Martin, Larry Vuckovich, Rhoda Scott, and a group he co-led in the 90’s with the bassist Rufus Reid, TanaReid that featured Mark Turner.
