Pete Seeger: The Power of Song, an informative and up-lifting documentary about the life and work of folk-singer and activist Pete Seeger, will be presented by The Visionary Edge at 7:30 pm, Saturday, February 21st at The Johnson House Train Depot in Half Moon Bay.
In honor of Pete’s work, Eleanor Walden, community organizer and founder of the movement to nominate Seeger for a Nobel Peace Prize, will be present to talk about her years of activism working with Seeger on tour for the Progressive Party in 1948 and later during the Civil Rights movement.
Pete Seeger: The Power of Song starts out with Pete doing what he does best: standing on stage, singing, encouraging the crowd to sing along with him. By the end of the opening scene, the crowd’s chorus is so big and loud, it overwhelms Seeger’s voice, as he moves away from the mic a bit and lets them drown him out.
Saturday, February 21st. Doors will open at 7:00pm, film begins at 7:30. The Johnson House Train Depot, 110 Higgins Purisima, HMB. Advance tickets $10, door $15. No one turned away for lack of funds! Call 650-560-0200 for information and reservations as seating is limited.
Due to a scheduling conflict, Supervisor Gordon’s office hours will not be on the fourth Thursday this month. His office hours will be Friday, February 20 from 10am until Noon and the Sheriff’s Substation in Moss Beach.
We’ve set up a gallery for your photos from the Tour of California, which whipped through the Coastside a couple of hours before the skies cleared up this morning. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
NOTE: The photos in the gallery are sorted by time stamp. So photos are not grouped by photographer, but roughly in the order they were taken. Of course, the cameras’ clocks were not synchronized.
A powerful Pacific storm is forecast for Saturday night:

... and more rain and heavy winds to follow through next Friday:
A period of moderate to heavy rain is expected on Sunday and Sunday night. The heaviest precipitation is expected to occur over areas of elevated terrain. Especially hazardous conditions will be present across the burn scar areas of Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. People in and near these burn scar areas should keep abreast of the latest forecasts and be prepared to act if any watches or warnings are issued.
Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) announced the addition of Donna Dubinsky to its Board of Directors and the appointment of Board member Mark Wan as Chair of the private, non-profit land trust.
High-tech entrepreneur Dubinsky is regarded as one of the driving forces behind the rise of PDA (personal digital assistant) and "smartphone" technology in Silicon Valley. After stints at Apple and Claris, she co-founded Palm, Inc., with computer-design visionary Jeff Hawkins, and served as CEO. In 1996, Dubinsky and Hawkins introduced their new invention, the popular PalmPilot. Their association led to the founding of Handspring, which in 1999 introduced the next-generation PDA the Visor and, later, the successful smartphone Treo. Subsequently Handspring merged into Palm, where until recently Dubinsky served on the board of directors.
Venture capitalist Mark Wan joined POST’s Board in 2003. As Board Chair he succeeds Karie Thomson, who joined the Board in 1996 and served as Chair from 2006 to 2008. Thomson is now Vice Chair.
Formerly a general partner at Brentwood Associates, Wan helped fund and found companies such as General Surgical Innovations, Odyssey Healthcare and Perclose Medical. In 1993, he launched the investment fund Three Arch Partners, in Portola Valley, where he continues to seek out new healthcare firms, often assuming temporary operating responsibility and managing key functions during a company’s early years.
There will up to 150 riders with lots of support people and vehicles in the area as well as spectators. Some roads will be closed during ride times and others partially restricted. This is a very fast ride and impact in each area should be short in duration, with total time in the county at less that 3 hours.
The ride will enter the county from the north at Daly City and eventually exit into Santa Cruz County. The major roads impacted in San Mateo County will be Hwy 1, Hwy 35 and Hwy 84. It is suggested that you should allow extra time when using these roads before, during and after the actual ride. Law enforcement will be monitoring the race and will be working with traffic controls in many locations. Please allow yourself ample time when using these roads and expect delays.
Below is an estimate of when the riders will be in the specific areas:
9:00 SM County along Hwy 35 in Daly City
9:10 Hwy 1 southbound, Pacifica City limits
