Joel, I'll repeat the question I asked you in different thread.
How can you defend the idea that only the Supervisors can speak for the Midcoast?
As also said before, the Supervisors are not required to muzzle the MCC. As far as I can see the only issue you have is that the MCC, who were elected by the majority of Midcoast residents, have a different opinion than you do.

The county provides our roads, planning, zoning, public works, police and parks. Schools, water, and sewers are handled by separate agencies. The issue is that the county does what it wants on the Midcoast without regard to the wishes of its residents. Examples: * Eviscerated protections in the Local Coastal Program (the development plan required by the Coastal Act) developed by the MCC after consultation with the community. * Permits the development of the Midcoast without regard to the water supply…

Joel, the portion of the bylaws you quote permits, but doesn't require, the Supervisors to prohibit the MCC from speaking to LAFCO on our behalf.
Are you saying that the Board of Supervisors should be the only body permitted to speak on behalf of the Midcoast and that they should specifically prohibit our elected representatives from speaking on our behalf?
How can you defend that position?

Steve, I'm not sure what you mean by eco-terrorism. Could you please be specific and cite some examples here on the Coastside?

Tammy: Thanks for the tip. I fixed the link.

Carl, I'd be interested in knowing what you'd like to see happen.
It seems to me that the options are (1) no change, (2) a Midcoast services district with more power than MWSD and GSD, (3) incorporation, or (4) annexation with Half Moon Bay. Am I missing any?

Fair enough. We're all members of multiple communities. I'm a member of the Montara, Midcoast, and Coastside communities. Montara/Moss Beach is a community where water is concerned. The Midcoast community is the weakest of these communities, and that's part of the problem.
There's a reason Mr. Franklin captioned his cartoon "Join, or Die".

It's not too late. The LAFCO thing was on rails. Nothing we could have done would have changed the outcome of the report because those things are written using a template that favors consolidation of functionally similar agencies. And you know better than to think that CUSD cares what the folks on the Midcoast want. What we need is an ongoing long-term process to raise the consciousness of Midcoast residents, create a plan for self-government, and to execute it incrementally. No one's going to give…

Kevin, I'm not aware of any members of the "pro-builder lobby" on the MCC. I think you should back up your claim.
For those of you who don't follow Coastside politics in excruciating detail, Darin is being coy. Kevin is not referring to Leonard Woren.

The bar at Cetrella is one of our favorite spots on the Coastside, mostly because the live jazz was always so good. This is a big loss.
I'm not sure what's involved in closing a restaurant down for four months and then reopening with a new staff, but I'm concerned about how this is going to play out.

That's an interesting point. San Mateo County varies dramatically from Daly City to Burlingame to Foster City to East Palo Alto.
It's good to remember that for all our perceived differences locally, we're not really that different.

This analysis will be the basis for later work in the 2009 election season, as well as some pieces I have in mind about the LAFCO recommendations regarding Coastside government. I have a few other ideas for stories and analysis on local politics as well.

We're lucky to have access to a real downtown as a focus for our community. And I've always been in awe of anyone who'd be willing to invest their dreams and their savings in a retail business in the best of times.
It's more important than ever to support your favorite downtown businesses.

Thanks for posting this. I saw the planets in the sky the other night and recognized Jupiter, but had no idea what the other body was. This should be pretty cool.

Another reader notes that:
If you call 911 from a cell phone, you are routed to CHP in Richmond and they won't know what your jurisdiction is, not to mention there is quite often a backlog of calls. if you are in san mateo county, it is quicker from a cell phone to call 363-4000 and explain it is a 911 call from a cell phone and be prepared to give location. the dispatch can then handle the call appropriately.

Good question. I don't know what the procedure is, nor do I know what should be done.
Any ideas what can be done with mountain lions that start hanging out in populated areas?
It's my understanding that a mountain lion was sighted in the quarry in Pacifica last year. Seems like an equally improbable location: no prey, no cover, across a highway, in a populated area.

Thank you for your apology, Ken. I want start by saying that I voted for you. Coastsider endorsements can't be objective, but they're about more than who Barry's voting for. They're about the candidates for whom I feel I can make a convincing argument to someone who doesn't know me, except from what they read on Coastsider. I'm still having trouble making the case for you, although I confess it would have been fun to inflict you on certain members of the current board. But this can't just be about…

Several big dogs joined on the hike, so I'm guessing that it is.
