Highway 92 project takes its first steps tonight

October 26, 2006
Dylan I too am looking for info online about the 92-1 project. Posted on Talkabout asking for info also.I believe that where the project ends going East @ Hilltop when we go back to our miserable one lane from 2 is going to cause problems as every one jockeys back to one lane from two.Rage, middle fingers' zooming past you on the right @ the last minute to get one car ahead of you.Dont see how this is not going to cause backups. Going West is going to be a help though as traffic will spread out from…

Cunha returns to old schedule, cancels buses

September 14, 2006
Thanks Cindi, You said it all! Call me & my wife paranoid too. My youngest daughter graduated Cunha in 86 & HMB HI in1990. My kids played in front of our house with all the neighborhood kids we made lots of babies back then!SIGH BUT they did not walk to school (traffic has doubled since we moved here in 6/69) you could guarantee one of the other kids would come running to us & fink on my daughters when they did something wrong.. I guesss it doesn"t rain or storm where the "let them kids walk to school"advocates…

Cunha returns to old schedule, cancels buses

September 13, 2006
Mike & Leonard, I to walked to school in NYC from little Italy to 6th Ave im a 67 years old dinosour. Back in those days you could walk to school with little fear of getting mugged or raped or kidnapped these are different times. Both my daughters went to HMB High & Cunha i wouldn"t let them walk to school down Highway 1 & that was 18+ years ago. Busing back than was a lifesaver for us.We used to walk them to the bus stop & wait with them till bus arrived. Look at the kid's waiting for a ride outside…

Will Wavecrest be disked over the long weekend?

September 04, 2006
I wonder sometimes that those who are always saying the sky is falling there's a redlegged froggie, snake , wetlands to stop everything really care or are they just playing the critter card & wetland card to stop everything that may help the coast people,s sad infrastructure & their safety. Tired of hearing people playing the critter card or wetlands card to stop everthing. Cant even get a decent water pipeline built & 2 people on the board have to play their critter & wetlands card.

Opinion: City Council to HMB kids: Drop dead

August 16, 2006
Aime, Your right the park will eventually get built. The City Council almost passed out [so did my family] when they heard the cost of the park 13 Mil.? Imagine what the cost is going to be down the road. Like everything else we fight about road improvements, new school, library, police station the longer we wait the more it's going to cost the hapless California taxpayer there's no free lunch the money has to come out of somebody's pocket & my pocket's have holes in them. We need to get with it…

Opinion: City Council to HMB kids: Drop dead

August 15, 2006
Mike, In the Casa Del Mar [the infamous precinct 3321]there are a few sidewalk hoops. I enjoy watching the neighborhood kids playing basketball. My kids are long gone but they played in front of my house, big wheels, bicycling etc I could keep an eye on them & they also played with kids their age that they knew not strangers. Or big kids that would bully them in one of our non existing play yards. One suggestion is that the hoops get put away when not in use & than rolled back out for games most…

One restaurant’s door closes, another one opens

Barbara Believe i did frequent those resturants that are now belly up. They will probably start posting my picture at resturant doors "dont let this guy in he is the resturant kiss of death" Pizza joints i frequent are It's Italia & over the hill Toto's [ thier pizza reminds me of the pizza i ate in my wasted youth in New York's little Italy] Also Windy City. Sam

Barbara, Get ready am going to see if my resturant kiss of death is still alive & well as am going to try both the resturants you mentioned. Remember the original Shore Bird & Dans loved them both till they also went downhill & belly up! I BBq'd at home & the BBQ went belly up & had to spring for a new one. The pizza joints i eat at stay alive & well & keep my barrel belly full.

My wife & neighbor dined at ONO once, service was lousy & food wasn't all that great. Used to love to go to the Anchorage always got the Sophies Choice fish stew but last time we went knew something was wrong as wasn't the usual amount of fish in the stew. Every time i find a place i like they wind up going downhill or belly up. Could be Devils Slide did ONO in. Almost had a stroke when i read that Ketch Joanne was thinking of moving cause of slide.

Devil’s Slide is open!

Ray, Thanks thought i was the only one on the Coast that realizes the volume of traffic we now have local's & tourist. And 2 lanes each way is going to be barely adequate, of course those that want to use our roads for stopping growth will see 2 lanes as another Cal Trans conspiracy to get taxpayer moneys. They would probably love to see one lane! alternate south & north traffic thru the tunnel! Sign me Mr. Tunnel Phobiac!

Devil’s Slide is open!

August 06, 2006
Carl, Glad to hear our little dig tunnel is going to be wide enough to drive thru. Remember reading that people were complaining that the tunnel was too wide! I presume that they wanted a narrow tunnel so that we would merrily bounce off the walls driving thru it. This i presume would be another growth stopping infrastructure fiasco. No matter for the people that are already here clogging our roads they must all be mirages not real people so lets not do anything to improve their lives commute, a…

Devil’s Slide is open!

August 04, 2006
Well now that the slide is open again maybe [& this is going to twink people] it can stay as an alternate route to our narrow 2 laner "Little Dig" tunnel for us tunnel phobiacs, be just my luck that not only will the vehicle in front of me be on fire in the tunnel but also the car behind! Or get stuck behind a spewing stinky diesel. As Donald Suterland said in a movie "Always with the negative waves Moriarty" :)

Opinion: Support the Citizens’ Alternative Parcel Tax measure

August 14, 2006
Ken Hope you get elected to cusd board if nothing else i believe you will stir up the pot! I hope in a good way! Don't have any kids in HMB schools anymore. Your Alternative Parcel Tax doesn't sound bad. But would like to hear other peoples opinion who are more more informed than me. Of course being over 65 would like old people exemption that was in proposition S included. Good Luck.

Ray, Thanks for your comments. I agree Coastsider.com is a great site. But I can spill coffee on my HMB Review without having a meltdown, if I did it on a laptop [if i had one] I'd cry. Still I like turning pages & you can hide behind a newspaper if someone (an ex or someone you don't like walks into the coffee shop.) And the paper will keep rain or gull poop off your head! Also, I think most people are smart enough to realize what's biased and who paid to get their mug in the paper. So I laugh at…

Mary B. Thanks for reminding my senile old mind about those columns. I think I still prefer to read those stories but now all I read about is all the alphabet groups we have on the coast now. All agreeing to disagree with each other. Oh well, such is progress if you can call it that.

Certain people don't like our local newspaper? That's too bad. I know people who have canceled their subscription because they also took offense or didn't like what was written. Maybe they would like to go back in time and read censored news. I for one have 3 subscriptions to the Review, two of which I've purchased for my daughters. Both my HMB born girls who have moved enjoy reading it. One of their husbands is a local boy as well. I still miss the old HMB paper when Mr. Bauer used to write about…

Slide will open Friday, Aug 4, at 5am

August 03, 2006
So Carl & Robert say Caltrans shafted us gullible coastsiders? Thats good to know, we now know who to turn to if the slide does a tumble before our "Little Dig' tunnel gets built. They can be Prez & Vice Prez of the "Committee to fix the slide in 24 hours or less."

Devil’s Slide to reopen August 4

July 26, 2006
Hey Anita you sound like a nice office "pouge".And Matt, i was first introduced to the term "pouge" by one of my lovely, snarling drill instructors at Parris Island Marine Corps recruit depot 49 years ago. Tried to look it up in the slang dictionary to see what they said about it but it wasn't there. Maybe the DI tought it up as one of his many nasty things he hurled @ us hapless recruits.

Thank,s CalTrans for getting the slide fixed earlier than predicted. I say to all those who whine about Cal Trans pick up a shovel, pick, drill etc & hang over the cliff in the middle of the night & have at it, otherwise stop your whining.I will bet most of the whining comes from sit behind the desk office pouges. This from one who did double & triple shifts in all kinds of weather & is paying for it in his "golden" years. Thanks again Cal Trans from a 37 year HMB resident. Please dont take all the…

Letter:  Why hasn’t anything been done about the evening commute?

July 14, 2006
Linda, Re your 7/11 post the reason that the whole county voted for the tunnel is that the tunnel people made it a county wide vote some of my fellow workers asked me "why am i voting on this i dont live on the coast" i told them cause the tunnel people were afraid if left up to the coast we would have favored the bypass. At tunnel info sign up booths they made it sound like we were going to pave over paradise, we could have had a nice scenic bypass like scenic 280. Note that the tunnel people haven't…
