Letter:  Why hasn’t anything been done about the evening commute?

July 10, 2006
Everyone including my wife would like something done about the evening commute.{im retired but the long suffering wife commutes from Burlingame]Her pet peeve is @ 35/280 at times she finds traffic backed up to under 280 @ 4pm. As for doing something ever hear of "do nothing & you will never get in trouble" thats one of the reasons our bureaucrats do nothing!

Measure S loses with 61% of the vote

June 07, 2006
I second Brian,s remarks about the Schiller rant & Rave it shouldn't be allowed on this or any site! Cant believe it! Labaling those who disagree with him "child abusers" Naziism is alive & well! This is a great example for our children.

Albertsons closing in HMB

June 07, 2006
I agree with the people that would like to see a movie theater @ Albertsons. A number of years ago i wrote to HMB review about a movie theater & how it would help after hours business & resturants, the next week someone wrote in "we dont need a movie theater, stop it just stop the insanity of greed right now" to this day cant figure out what the insanity of greed has to do with a movie theater. But im sure the writer would go for a mosquito breeding wetlands for our sacred frogies & snakes to heck…

Senate and Supervisor candidates will appear at Wednesday’s MCC meeting

May 23, 2006
Thanks Ken, I was wondering the same thing about identity theft. I don't like the idea of having to send in a copy of my drivers license, medicare card or my birth certificate. Why can't we do anything right! If you think everybody is out to get you, your right, they are.! Call me a paranoid senior citizen.

Senate and Supervisor candidates will appear at Wednesday’s MCC meeting

May 23, 2006
Regarding measure S I would like to warn all our senior citizens [65 & over] that there isn't much time to send in your Proposition S Parcel Tax Exemption Application if it wins. The election is Tues June 6 the application has to be in by Thursday June 15 06 thats only 9 days.Very easy to forget to send in on time. Or maybe it,s designed that way so our senior citizens will forget. Also noticed that it,s for tax year 2006 does this mean we have to send an exemption application in every year? Any info…

Photos: How Caltrans is drilling those holes under the roadbed

May 16, 2006
Laura, Your right i dont want to hear anyone "bad mouthing" the Cal Trans workers that are going to hang off this cliff 24-7 in all kinds of weather am sure they are going to be paid well [i hope] This is from one who changed aircraft engines in all kinds of weather.

Caltrans plans to announce schedule Tuesday

May 15, 2006
Boy was traffic a zoo on mother,s day? Had to go to OAK airport to pick up my wife left HMB @ 5pm took 45 minutes to get to traffic light @ the lake. My neighbor called & said she is stuck over the hill & wont try to get home till late cause of traffic coming west. Been in HMB since 6/69 & this is worst traffic fiasco iv,e seen yet am sure there will be more! But if it,s any consolation my neighbor was trying to get to Marin & gave up cause of traffic on 19 ave thru San Francisco. Am glad im retired…

Opinion:  Foothill Bypass, Part II: A legal (and literal) quagmire

May 13, 2006
Making Highway 1 a 3 lane road, you have to be joking, ever hear of the middle lane being called a suicide lane? Either leave highway 1 as is a disaster, or make it a 4 lane, not 3. Remember Mike Ferreira sometimes makes sense but he has to speak from a politicos point of view if everyone is for 4 lanes Mike is to, if everyone is for bulldozing the roads back to the stone age so is Mike such is politics to get elected. He is our big wetlands finder also. Hope he doesn't see the puddle in my backyard,…

Opinion:  Foothill Bypass, Part II: A legal (and literal) quagmire

May 09, 2006
Regarding Mike Ferreira,s article about the new foothill bypass revival i agree with him it,s a lost cause. Also that the improvements to 92 Main St. although better than nothing are going to cause traffic problems going East on 92 with 4 lanes dumping into 2, traffic is going to back up while drivers merge into 1 lane, road rage & the finger will prevail. I believe the improvements will help going west on 92 as we will be going from 2 to 4 lanes. > To use infrastructure as a tool to stop growth…

Coastsider endorses Measure S

June 02, 2006
Regarding Ken Johnson,s warning about the measure S exemption. Talking to a couple of my neighbors one whom is over 80 & her daughter [who works with a lot of seniors] neither one has recieved [they say they didnt ] the exemption form in the mail as i did. I promptly made copies of my form & gave it to them. And warned them that they have only 9 days after the election if measure S passes to mail it. Are they trying to make us forgetful{whats my name!]senior citizens forget to send in on time. Please…

Video:  Tour Caltrans’s wetlands restoration in Montara

May 12, 2006
This is in response to Linda,s concern over the new wetlands. Am afraid to create a puddle in my backyard of my home that i have been in for over 35+ years lest Kermit the sacred red legged froggie move in & i be evicted out of my home, & my home be turned into a 1/2 way house for Kermit & his friends. Still remember when a Kermit was found on the site of the bypass in 95 where none were before, did anyone check to see if the Kermit was a Toys R Us specie? Wetlands is a buzzword along with infrastructure…

New Coastside organizations will promote “infrastructure sensitive to the environment”

May 03, 2006
The statement,s of the new CCF sound good. Of course they will be accused of being development prone. I also feel our infrastructure on the coast need,s help. My family has been in HMB since 6/69, since then there,s hardly been any thing built for the people that have moved here. We let houses be built people enter this country but we wont build them any new roads or increase road capacity, reservoirs or any other facilities i guess we expect all these new resident,s not to drive, drink water or…

Landslide cuts communication to the Coastside

April 25, 2006
It would have been nice to turn on our TV to local channel 6 MCTV that was still on the air & find out what was going on during the comm failure. Instead of running a constant boring video loop. Is it that much trouble to send someone down to the Channel 6 transmiting studio & give us updates. What are we paying out of our cable bill for, ads.

Landslide cuts communication to the Coastside

April 24, 2006
I can't believe that there,s no redundent cable to provide comm service. If this is a sign of what,s going to happen during the big quake we are all in trouble.Putting a cable in a slid prone area is really swift.

Opinion: One step at a time

May 03, 2006
I disagree with a lot of Mr. Johnsons ranting but one thing i agree on is busing for our children. My family has been in HMB since 6/69 & busing was a blessing for my two daughters as both my wife & i worked & i worked crazy airline shifts. All one needs to do is drive by the HMB library at 4 to 5 pm & even later & see the kids waiting for parents to get home from work for a ride. Wish this parcel tax would have had busing.

Suggest everyone read the Lady from Moss Beach,s letter to the editor in Wednesday,s San Mateo Times. titled "In defense Of The Bypass" She has it perfect, my thought,s & others she had the courage to write in defense of the bypass while the rest of us let the tunnel people run over us by making out like we wanted to concrete the Coast. ["Oh My God your against the Earth"] because we wanted a decent road not this "car in front of you on fire" dangerous tunnel. Can't believe the meddler from Woodside…

Accident on Hwy 92 muddies impact of HMB’s emergency traffic measures

April 06, 2006
Oh no, not again! Having survived the 1995 closure, I am now retired so I don't have to deal with the commute over 92 with the slide closed. Le me whine a bit. We could have had a beautiful scenic bypass already built. But no, we got conned into an expensive, longer to build, dangerous (car in front of you on fire!)tunnel. I remember when the tunnel people had booths at fairs. They made it sound like we were going to pave over the garden of Eden. My friends at work, who live over the hill, asked…

Dog etiquette (for humans)

May 18, 2006
I read & heard remarks people made about Cal trans making a "quickie' repair to the Slide. So what if it lasts a month than make another "quickie repair. I hope me or my family, friends or neighbors aren't on the quickie repair when it decides to quickly fail! Can just see the ambulance chaser,s drooling at getting their hands on that lawsuit against Caltrans. Remember lawsuits have been won over people spilling hot coffee on their crotchs. Cal Trans has to make the safest repair possible even if…

CUSD will put $175 parcel tax on June ballot

March 08, 2006
Unless school transpottation is addressed i am not voting for this parcel tax. I am 66 years old so it wont effect me. I would like to tell all the HMB residents to drive by the HMB library around 4:30 - 5 pm & look at the school kids waiting for thier parents to get home from work for a ride. They have been there since around 3 pm when school let out. The library has turned into a babysiting service the kids are waiting outside in the cold & rain or inside disturbing the peace & tranquilty of the…
