Warrant Arrest
On 01/04/12, at approximately 1623 hours, suspect was contacted at the Moss Beach substation during a child custody dispute investigation.  A records check revealed he had a warrant for his arrest.  Suspect was taken into custody and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.

To show their appreciation for one of America’s premier music venues, Larry Vuckovich has gathered over a dozen seasoned veterans and new faces on the jazz scene who will perform an extended program of Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker, Horace Silver, John Coltrane’s music, some Afro-Cuban jazz, and Mexican boleros. Vocalists Jackie Ryan and Jeff Oster will also join the celebration, as well as Grammy nominated percussionist John Santos. This will be a swinging thank you bash with an international flavor introducing the Russian-born/American bebop guitarist Ilya Lushtak.

Since we last updated the Sheriff’s report in November, a car was vandalized in El Granada,  a teen party in the wooded hill at the end of Coral Reef went bad, a missing hiker was found at the end of Coral Reef, a car was burglarized on the Cowell Purisima trailhead, a car was vandalized in Montara, a locked car was stolen on the 300 block of 3rd street in Montara.

Looking for something to do over the upcoming Winter Break? Stop by the HMB Library during the week of December 27-30 from 2:00PM to 3:30PM. There will be crafts and activities for all ages…maybe even Loteria.

Why did the deer cross the road?

“A similar study was successfully performed at Highway 89 near Lake Tahoe after drivers on that roadway were involved in many collisions with deer. The project led Caltrans to build tunnels under the highway for the deer.

‘It seems that deer will follow patterns and use the same crossings,” said Fish and Game biologist Cristen Langner. “They find the easiest way through stuff.’

Most drivers wouldn’t know it, but Highway 280 already has several tunnels specifically so that deer can get across the highway. Those tunnels are equipped with motion-sensor cameras to let Caltrans officials know if deer are crossing.”

I guess that tells us what we need to know in terms of funding priorities: Deer get tunnels, we get traffic signals.

You can download a track of music from Kline’s website to play on your iPod or iPad before the event, or you can borrow a free CD or tape at the event.  Come early if you want a CD or tape. They go quickly.

The last regular MCC of the year will be this Wednesday, December 14.  The newly elected members to the MCC will take the oath of office and the new council will elect officers for 2012.

The meeting has full and diverse agenda with a number of special attendees:

• Supervisor Don Horsley and Assemblyman Jerry Hill will acknowledge the departing council members and Supervisor Horsley will give the oath of office to new members.
• Katrina Rill, the new aide for Congresswoman Jackie Speier who now covers the Coastside will introduce herself to the community. 
• Christine Carey, who has assumed community support responsibility for San Mateo County portions of the GGNRA will introduce herself to the community.
• The regular agenda will include Supervisor Horsley discussing the Devil’s Slide Task Force.
• The council will consider a letter of support for an update to the county’s Green Building Program
• A roadmap for the review of the recently released Highway 1 Safety and Mobility Improvement Study will be discussed.
