It's the same list. I needed to update my info. I'm considering dropping those info directories because it's so hard to keep them up to date.
I believe that the Pacifica list was moved to Google when a new admin took it over, but you should check with the list itself.

I love this video. I've spent a lot of time trying to potograph pelicans and never captured what I love about them. Darin has done an amazing job of capturing them, and I strongly recommend checking this one out.

There are zero novel references to "entitlement accelerator" in Google. That's quite an achievement in phrase-making.
The phrase makes me wonder: "Whose entitlement are they accelerating?"
Are they trying to convince Pacifica that Peebles is entitled to a rezoning?
...or that Pacifica is entitled to 355 housing units in the quarry?

The designer has requested anonymity.
The new software seems to be working great. I have identified half-a-dozen bugs, non of which appear to be critical.

No one makes more source documents available to Coastsiders than I do. But I'm realistic about how many folks are going to be able to read them. In an ideal democracy, every citizen would read and understand every bill before congress, every supreme court decision, most major appeals court decisions, presidential signing statements, and maybe the highlights of the Federal Register. And then on down to the state, county, district, and city level. In the real world, we have to rely on people we trust…

I don't have an easy way to tell the count. Besides, it's a technical and legal document that we're not necessarily going to be understand fully without context. These redwood forests so close to urban areas are irreplaceable. If a way can be found to preserve them, the public benefit is incalculable. While I don't think the YMCA should be compelled to pay the entire cost of preservation, and a way should be found for the beneficiaries to compensate them for it. At the same time, this may require…

I've added links to the proposals, so you can download them from Coastsider.
It looks to me like the CDF proposal is $200,000 less than the districts' projected revenues.

This issue fascinates me for lots of reasons. The first is that I think we lost something when we went from neighborhoods where kids played in the streets to one where they're not allowed out the front door. I grew up in a suburban neighborhood and spent a lot of time playing in the yards and streets in front of our house. The second is that this is the kind of "blight" you'd expect to be an issue for a homeowners' association, but not in a regular city neighborhood. The third is that our neighborhood…

The quote attributed to me was actually me quoting the HMB Review.

You can download the YMCA's timber harvesting plan from Coastsider. It's big -- a 13mb ZIP file of pdf's. You can download the file by clicking on the following link:

If you want to see what a four-lane highway would look like on the Coastside, take a look at Pacifica. Just south of Sharp Park, the freeway turns into a four-lane highway. For most of its length, there is a concrete barrier down them middle, except where traffic lights provide the sole means of getting on the highway. This serves the dual purpose of discouraging people from crossing anywhere but crosswalks and keeping fast-moving cars from smashing into one another. It undoubtedly encourages cars…

I drove up from Los Angeles to the Coastside this weekend, trying to stay on Highway 1 as much as possible, coming back to 101 around San Luis Obispo when it was getting dark. As you drive, it becomes clear (if you didn't know it already) that there is a huge difference between a two-lane and a four-lane highway. You need more lights and barriers and crosswalks. There is an expectation of speed. They are much less friendly to people living and walking and biking alongside them. You have areas where…

I'm moving from pMachine to Expression Engine. I seriously considered WordPress, as I would love to use open source, but the migration path was less clear. Drupal, etc, were too geeky for me, both in implementation and they way they look to readers.
So far, Expression Engine is great. It has a very good template language and excellent administrator's control panel. Coastsider contains a few things I had to write php code to do in pMacine, but with EE, there is no php in my templates.

Ray: I'm a Cunha parent who supported the Cunha site because after driving my daughter there for a year, it was crystal clear to me that Cunha was a vital part of the downtown community. This is a benefit to downtown, the kids, parents, and the community as a whole. I agree that we shouldn't get bogged down on this, but I can't let the statement stand that a new building on a new site is better than an historic building in the walkable middle of town. I think parents would have understood that if…

It has not been demonstrated that Wavecrest's opponents were responsible for the board's failure to build their middle school there, but that's a discussion for another time and place. Just to be clear: They are not the same people, but the current school board members are the annointed successors of previous Wavecrest-oriented school boards. I've supported the idea of a second middle school in the unincorporated Midcoast. Another way to take the pressure off Cunha is to return to K-6 elementary…

I haven't seen any evidence that Carl speaks for anyone other than himself, or of a no-growth cabal. Certainly there no evidence that a no-growth cabal is responsible for the defeat of Measure S, which is what the story is about. I agree that the Cunha vs. Wavecrest debate is unlikely to have had a direct influence on the defeat of Measure S. The precinct data don't support it. However, the failure of the current school board and its political antecedents to deliver on their 10-year promise that…

Joel says "And I wish, instead of trying to defend an illogical position (he doth protest too much, methinks), Barry spent his time figuring out how to make Measure S pass". Counterintuitive is not the same thing as illogical. "Protests too much"? In other words, my disagreement is prima facie evidence that I'm wrong? I did my best to "figure out how to make Measure S pass". Before Measure S was finalized, I lobbied the folks who were writing it to *please* include money for transportation. I editorialized…

Ray says: "I believe that most everyone that lives on the coastside cares for the environment and so would be considered environmentalists". That's one way to define the term so as to make it meaningless. He goes on to say, "We are currently paying the price for a specific agenda of ensuring zero development on our coast." There is no evidence that a zero-dev cabal defeated Measure S. Or that one exists. I think Joel has a point. The unfortunate decision to remove transportation from Measure S probably…
