Letter: City council working at cross purposes?

February 02, 2007
Brian, As I am not an elected official it is not my responsibility to solve the park issue. However, I served on the Community Park Advisory Committee and have on many occasions highlighted our park deficiency. Read below my letter, dated 10/10/04 , to our local paper. "Researching data from The Trust for Public Lands for the year 2000, reveals some interesting data that pertain to the City of Half Moon Bay. For low density cities in the United States, on average, there is 15.8 acres of Park/Open…

Letter: City council working at cross purposes?

February 01, 2007
As usual, Mr. Ginna, you are playing the red herring game. My point is that the widening/stoplight/extension that is being readied for throwaway was to have been paid for by the developer, not by the taxpayers. Throwing away a $1,500.00 ~ $2,000,000 infrastructure improvement is the topic under discussion here. Isn't referencing the contents of a public document (1997 DEIR) a solid argument? Perhaps I should have added a sub-title..."Be Aware of the Law of Unintended Consequences?

I know that Ocean Colony and Frenchmen's Creek have always had underground utilities. Not many problems. John L.

Wavecrest resumes farming on Thanksgiving

I normally desire not to post on this list as most of the posters are a bunch of mud slingers w/o any basis in fact. When Steven Hyman started to post I thought that he would bring a breath of fresh air to this list. Sorry to say he is as bad as the rest. Why? Look at his statement: "I have heard from reputable geologists that that has happenned here before. And dont forget that the Beach House was tortched during its construction". He has made a most strong inference that the Beach House was…

After these many, many thousands of words, one only has to remember that Rich Gordon is adamantly opposed to the use of eminent domain.

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

October 27, 2006
Bev France stated that "Shame, shame, shame on you Barry for mimicking the Review in your endorsement of Pam Fisher for School Board." The shame should be placed on the real villains for causing the suits against the school district: Namely the superintendent and the current school board. Why? Because if they had followed the proper process, there would not have been any need for the suits. If they had had a proper permit to cut down the protective tree screening, according to HMB Code, the city…

Will Wavecrest be disked over the long weekend?

September 11, 2006
Posted by Don R. Whitt on 09/09 at 08:51 PM ___This is a 10 year conversation. No one can accuse us of working fast, can they? Ten years is but a short time in the history of this Wavecrest project. Excerpts from the HMB Review article "Wave Crest Subdivision Depends on Water" published on JANUARY, 1947. states: "Development of the Wave Crest Subdivision by Victory Development Company of San Francisco depends upon Half Moon Bay's ability to supply sufficient water. With a sufficient supply of water…

Backgrounder: The Quarry vote in Pacifica

August 23, 2006
Quoting a paragraph from the Pacifica Tribune, dated August 23, 2006. http://www.pacificatribune.com/localnews/ci_4225797 "Peebles said his development will generate new jobs with priority given to local citizens and business people and significantly revitalize Pacifica's economy. Alluding to $17 million in new revenue, based on his own accounting of the maximum proposal, he said the money could be spent at the discretion of City Council acting as the Redevelopment Agency. Since the Quarry is in…

Backgrounder: The Quarry vote in Pacifica

August 17, 2006
Ken Restivo, above, stated "No project, development agreement, regulatory review, or plan has been created by the developer or submitted to the City or the voters, nor would any such review be available to the voters before the November election. The only purpose for this November's ballot measure is to give any future developer an entitlement to build 355 housing units in the Quarry. If it is approved, this or any developer would be entitled to propose a project with up to 355 houses, and the "voter…

Letter: What to do with all the time we used to spend commuting

August 08, 2006
Judy is much, much too modest. She is a volunteer extraordinaire. If we had ten volunteers like Judy, the coastside would be the volunteer capitol of the United States. • For many years, Judy has worked ten + hour days, seven day a week as one of the main cogs of the most successful Christmas Bureau Adopt-A-Family program...Until every family is adopted. • Active Director of the Coastside Opportunity Center. • Does pro bono tax consulting and preparation each year for 200-300 poor families…

Devil’s Slide is open!

August 10, 2006
Why oh why do I have to keep repeating that Measure A in 1986, passed by the voters of San Mateo County, stated that Highway 1 north of Montara and Highway 92 east of the city limits of Half Moon Bay must be ONLY two lanes. No mention is made as to whether they have to SCENIC. It would require another vote of all the voters within San Mateo County to undo Measure A as that measure had no sunset clause. Ray. It is beyond myths or magic..it's the LAW So there is no need to paint a scenic highway inside…

Devil’s Slide to reopen August 4

Matt, I've been following these posts since the beginning and I am thoroughly disappointed by the "Nattering Nabobs of Negativism". They'll go to their graves having never said anything good or positive about CalTrans. How sad. John Lynch

I am in contact with Mr. Greg Labarthe, Grubs and Ellis Co. He is the leasing agent for Mike Shami, owner of the HMB Albertson's property. The owner is willing to divide the space and work with TJ's to do a deal if they are interested. I'm trying to establish contact with TJ'S Real Estate person who would handle HMB. Let's hope that more than 5300 signed petitions will pique their interest. John
