Indeed, that would be very interesting, they would remind the youth of today that "separation of church and state" is NOWHERE stated in the Constitution and why it is permissible for your government itself to have religion within it (that is, they put it all over the currency, buildings, et al). They would wonder why an informal letter by Jefferson in 1802 could be so wide widely assumed as law by atheists, liberals and the anti-religious, ... the US Constitution ensures that one may practice their…

Sohpomoric "editorial opinion"... reminds me of an MCCer who would cry, throw a temper tantrum, slam the table,... run home and audit her trust fund.

>>But he’s the Director of the San Mateo County Tea Party, and organization whose website speaks for itself >>Mr. Stone has a leadership role in the Tea Party. Speaks for itself. Barry please opine on how Mr Stone's affiliation apparently disqualifies him for the MCC. Heck, any candidate for the MCC could be head of the the Nation of Islam, the KKK, Heaven's Gate, or even AAA... and it wouldn't matter. Just ask Sabrina... she's first-hand how ineffective and pointless the MCC is. Explain to me…

"Support progressive values Half Moon Bay is a progressive community—it voted overwhelmingly in favor of Barack Obama and other Democrats " 9%+ unemployment for how long, trillions in deficits growing, not 2 but 3 wars, still no same sex marriage in CA, (non) shovel ready projects, Gore's dissappointment with failed/absent environmental policies etc... etc... I'd say Half Moon Bay is faring much better thanks to little change (and hope). Progressives need to do themselves a favor and go back to…

"The portal provides a convenient, remote and unsupervised location for unwanted visitors to stage drinking parties, use drugs, dump garbage, vandalize property "
Ah so the existing convenient, remote, and unsupervised location amidst unkempt dirt that exists now is safer?
At least having the State Parks pick up the trash and maintain the loo is more "supervision" than exists now...
Lotsa "boogeyman" in the OP, IMHO.

"The proposed Portals will provide parking and Restroom Facilities for an estimated 10,000 Visitors a year. GGNRA Consequences of this action will have serious impact on community infrastructure and current public use models." For one, I'm curious if this is 10,000 unique visitors or 10,000 'visits. Even if the former, that's assumed to be inflated as is everything 'round these parts, but amounts to roughly 25 ppl a day. Is the 10,000 split between the two 'portals'. If so, that's 12.5 ppl per day,…

"PCTV has a reputation for openness, community participation, and encouragement of local producers." and don't forget... they bring us Bruce Latimer. Would Pacifica Community Television videotape and broadcast Bruce down here? If so would the videos be published on the jointc MCTV/Pacifica Community Television website in a user friendly way? Bruce in general is difficult to access and embedded code is not widely available. Would the embedded "Bruce code" be made available to coastsiders? Online publications…

"I’d fault them a little on atmosphere, which was fine but could have been a little more posh at this price range. You have an terrific view of the Capistrano/Hwy 1 intersection from the dining room." Yowza. A house salad for $9. Romaine, croutons, vinagrette and shaved cheese. A house salad. Not attempting to cross sell anybody, but Mezza Luna has it for $6, but you only get a view of Capistrano/Prospect (only a 3-way). It's Italia for $7, AND you get that Main St & Mill auto AND pedestrian traffic.…

Agree. But they'll figure it out. Clay Lambert didn't just win Editor of the Year for nothin'. Actually they are using the BLOX, which is a turnkey CMS solution for small town newspapers such as ours. Guessing the HMB Review plunks about $1,000/month for it too. Noticed the HMB home page is about 28K, whilst the SF Gate's is 35K, so I'll leave it to the developer's to remark on inefficient code/capabilities. The internet standard for years, whether it be code or design... find a great example and…

"the cornucopians show no waking up from the notion all the stuff ever-increasing numbers of people need for their lives will magically come from somewhere." No magic, we were just told we'll just keep taking from the top 2%. Adn those big evil companies that give us iPads, Google search engines, local biopharma, oh and the villans in oil companies, the ones that give us gas that is the same price (inflation adjusted as it was in 1981, and it about 33% more than it cost 90 years ago (again, inflation…

"Public employee pensions are a problem, but I’m not sure we’ve determined what kind or how large a problem they are. " There are global-warming naysayers, and that seems like a public pension nayquote. Barry, the facts/figures/forecasts/etc put the IOCC to shame. Agree it's not the only problem, but it's on the "Mt Olympus" of problems. And revenue itself it's so much the problem, as prior revenue forecasts and the increasing regulatory environments effect on revenue. In case you haven't noticed,…

In April of 2008 I formed Montara Dog Group and put up a web site, http://www.montaradogs.com, primarily to encourage dog owners to leash their dogs"
Um Bill?
I find it ironic, or (pinky against lips a la Dr Evil) hypocritical, that you've chosen...
for this article...
a picture of your dog...
in POST...
....unleashed.
EPIC. I'm upping my 2/3 to 3/4.
I assume this is the same canine at your quarter on your dog blog http://www.montaradogs.com/Site/About_Me_.html

"Carl, ... I don’t know where you came up with the statistic that fewer than half of dog owners are following leash laws, but that sounds low to me." ... "More people walk their dogs on Montara trails than hikers, bikers and equestrians combined. " Bill, I don't know where you came up with the statistic that more dogwalkers populate the POST/GGNRA than hikers, bikers and equestrians COMBINED, but this sounds like ballyhoo. Besides, I don't need a statistic on leashed vs unleashed. I can walk this…

I'm sure we'll hear over and over that it's a revenue problem as well ranting about disclosure on the safety of the investments, not an annuitized spending. and ya'll know where to get the "revenue" from... CalPers is currently pegged to hope/achieve ~8% annual return. Yeah, they lost 5% in 2008, and 23% in 2009, but +11% last fiscal year, and pre-2008 four straight years of double digit earnings. Let's please not look at CalPers here. They are amongst the hallmark of public fund managers. Nor blame…

>When I think of California comfort food the image i get is diverse ethnic food Maybe the name should be american comfort food, that is the image of American food—-Meat. Nah, those of us whom are "comfortable" in California like exactly that. Those of us that are uptight about organic, humane treatment, union labor delivered dairy, and the tomatos derived from native species and habitat... seem "uptight" about their food. The rest of us are "comfortable" w/ hearty grub. The mac and cheese will…

"When will we wake up and start managing all of these exotic invasive species?"
REACTIVE> When it falls into your bedroom one night

PROACTIVE> When the permitting process and neighborhood hypocritical "audubonic outrage" at any attempt to do so... allows us to.

>>but the issues that Dan raised are unique to electronic ballots. No Barry, actually they are not, and I don't have the time to Google 137 instances across paper ballots, but I'd assume those with sense and recollection of electoral civics would know that already. >>raises the prospect of undetectable and unauditable Like the millions of paper ballots found from specific counties in the back of ______ and ____ and hidden in _____ and ______ weeks and months after elections. Otherwise, unless we…

Dan... the points you bring to bear have existed for hundreds of years in the "paper-based" format, as well. Besides, there is FAR more corruption outside of the ballot box in the election process.
P.S. - so very anti-environmental of you, too ;-)
